POSTPONED!

The revival of Hommy, the Latin Opera has been postponed, probably until 2002. Keep an eye on this page for changes an dupdates as they happen.

Before the initial performance of "Hommy", Latin music had never been presented in a general market venue, especially in concert format. Celia Cruz was brought out of her retirement in Mexico to sing a song written especially for her. She eventually signed with Fania records establishing her place in contemporary Salsa music. The presentation of "Hommy" was the first time Latin music was performed by a symphony orchestra. The recording of the opera was the first time a "concept" album was done in Latin music.

Now, some 30 years later, Larry Harlow is reviving this "Obra de Arte" to include some of the world's most well known Latino artists of the '90s as well as some of the original cast members. Expected to return in the title role of Hommy is Junior Gonzalez together with other original cast members Adalberto Santiago as the Doctor, Cheo Feliciano as Tio Jose, but the story continues to its NEW finale. Harlow is hoping to include Victor Manuel, Elvis Crespo, La India, Andy Montanez, Gilberto Santarosa and actor David Gonzalez as the Narrator for "Hommy 2001."

This will complete the contemporary sound for the younger generation, who have embraced the classic salsa sound but who did not get a chance to see the original version in 1973. Harlow has written an orchestral overture and some new material for this show and is now preparing to take it to all parts of the Latino world with orchestras for each city as well as his hand picked 20 musicians from New York.
