Dear Latin music lovers;

I am writing this special "HARLOW NEWS" to tell you about a new Latin singer I have been producing. In the past I have produced over 300 albums. This is the first time I have really been so excited about a new talent. I have been locked in several different recording studios since September, recording and mixing an 20 year old, beautiful Puerto Rican vocalist , now living in Florida by the name of ONANEY.

Onaney is the Taino name for Princess. Her father Jerry is from the lower East side of New York and was a big Harlow and Fania fan in his youth, The family moved to Cincinnati where Onaney was born and after a shot stay in Puerto Rico settled in Southern Florida to be near the Salsa scene. About 2 years ago, I put up a call for new talent on my web site www.larryharlow.com and had over 200 responses. Each and every person sent in photos, tapes and bios . But of all of them, Onaney was the most interesting and talented.

I invited her to New York. She came with her father and we immediately had great vibrations between us. After several days of showing her off and playing hours of music and talking about which way she would like to approach a recording we finally agreed on the concept. She was totally bilingual and into Latin POP and Salsa. Now the long task of contracts and finding the right songs for her to record.. After months of lawyers, papers, tapes, songwriters planes, trains, hotels and automobiles we had the ingredients for everything to come together. I hired a vocal coach, photographers, arrangers, copyists rehearsal studios, musicians etc. etc. etc. .

Then Onaney auditioned for the musical "SELENA FOREVER" . After many callbacks and flying all over the country to sing for all the producers and directors , she got a part in the show and was the understudy for the lead role of Selena. The show went into rehearsal in San Antonio, Texas. The road company traveled and rehearsed for several months and finally closed in Chicago last June. Now it was time to record. I had waited patiently for the resolution of the musical , but now it was time for action. Two recording sessions were planned . One in NYC at Hot Sounds Studio on West 26th St. and the other in N.Miami at Hot Productions.. I chose two great arrangers in Pete Nater, form NYC( Trumpet player with the Latin Legends) and Marlow Rosado, Miami (Pianist with Lefty Perez and Tito Puente Jr.), They arranged all the songs for the sessions.

We chose the best musicians in both NY and Miami for the dates and used Marc Quinones, Chembo Corniel, Richie Viruet, Kevin Ceballo, Guianko, Pablo Rosario, Ruben Rodriguez,Edwin Sanchez, Reynal Lopez and Luis Rosario among others in New York and Daniel Berroa, Ranses Colon,Johanathan Vargas,Eduardo Leal and Nestor Zabala in Miami. The songs and playing were superb. Now Onaney had her turn to sing . Her performances were inspirational. She is a true professional.

I returned to NYC for the mixing. I took my time and made sure they were perfect. Neil Axelrod form Funstuff Inc. her manager shot a great video and had professional photos done here in NYC and Onaney was at every mix session . She absorbs all of the information and is really learning her craft quite well. She is a serious talent and I am advising all of my readers to be on the lookout for her first CD which should be released by April 2001. I do not know what company will have the honor to be her label, but I am sure they all will be fighting over her as a Major talent. Onaney is bound for stardom, not only as a singer but as a dancer and actress. This Puerto Rican Talent is bound for Hollywood.. Look for her in the near future.

Que Sigue la Salsa.......Larry Harlow
